Christmas is upon us, and with it the long awaited visit of our family and friends for the Christmas holidays. So it’s time to step up the maintenance of our spa, jacuzzi or hot tub, checking temperature levels, water filtering and disinfection, and making sure our spa is safe for our guests, especially the little ones.
Steps for optimal preparation
1- Balance the water
Unless our spa water needs to be replaced because it is 2-3 months old, so a complete draining of the spa and complete replacement of the water would be advisable, we should have the pH and alkalinity balance controlled at 7.2-7.6 and 80-100 ppm, respectively. We should also control the level of hardness in our bathtub, adding a little calcium if it is out of balance. We must remember that soft water can cause stains, foaming and other additional problems.
2- Changing the filter
Changing the filter cartridge and fitting a new mineral rod will increase the purity of the water, reducing the possibility of our water becoming cloudy and foamy due to more intense use of our spa. A good recommendation would be to change the filter in December and use rods every 4 months for a better performance and quality of our water.
3- Increasing the filter runtime
Also, before the arrival of our family and friends now at Christmas, it might be a good idea to adjust the setting of our timer or filter programme to an extra 20%, increasing its percentage on a daily basis, thus compensating for the additional load of bathers.
4- Carpets
Check the condition of the carpets that surround our spa, and if they are worn and do not grip and absorb the excess water, it would be a good time to replace them. We must always think about safety, and our guests do not know our tricks when it comes to getting in and out of our hot tub.
5- Towels and dressing gowns
Prepare several sets of towels and bathrobes, so that our guests do not use the same ones they have in the bathroom.
6- Correct use and supervision in the spa
Design a small poster with the basic rules for the use of our spa. Don’t forget that the best way to reduce accidents is to have correct rules of use and safety.
- Maximum temperature of 40º.
- The maximum time of continuous use inside the bathtub shall never exceed 20 minutes.
- No person may be alone in the spa, and it must always be used by at least two people.
- Children under the age of 18 may not bathe in the spa without supervision.
- Pregnant women and people with high blood pressure may not use the spa.
- And here you can add all the measures and rules that you see fit, such as not leaving your slippers lying around, tidying up your clothes.
